Within a few years, Prithviraja had personally assumed control of the administration, but, shortly after taking power, he was faced with a rebellion from his cousin, Nagarjuna, who asserted his own claim to the throne. The revolt was brutally crushed, and Prithviraja turned his attention to the nearby kingdom of the Bhadanakas.
The Bhadanakas had been a persistent threat to the Chauhan-held region around Delhibut they were so comprehensively destroyed sometime prior to that they ceased to be mentioned in subsequent historical records.
It united the Chandelas and Gahadavalas anther ruling family of northern India and forced Prithviraja to increase military expenditures and vigilance on his southeastern frontier. Prithviraja also turned his sword against the powerful kingdom of Gujaratalthough little is known about that action. In the course of his aggressive campaigns, he came into conflict with Jayachandrathe Gahadavala ruler of Kannauj.
That event is popularly believed to have occurred after the first battle of Taraori in and shortly before the second battle of Taraori inbut the historicity of the Sanyogita episode remains a matter of debate. The two armies met in at Taraori now in Haryana stateabout 70 miles km north of Delhi.
Prithviraja fled the battleground, but he was overtaken and captured a short distance from the site of the battle. The king and many of his generals were subsequently executed, and the collapse of organized resistance in northern India led to Muslim control of the region within a generation.

More About.Sanyuktaalso known as SanyogitaSanjuktaor Samyuktais a character in the medieval Indian heroic romance Prithviraj Raso. According to the text, she was the daughter of Jaichandthe King of Kannaujand one of three wives of Prithviraj Chauhan. The love between Prithviraj and Samyukta is one of India's most popular medieval romances, immortalized in Chand Bardai 's epic Prithviraj Raso or, Chand Raisabut the historicity of the Samyukta episode remains a matter of debate.
At the peak of his reign, Prithviraj had annexed vast regions of India to his kingdom, and his fame had spread all across the subcontinent and to Afghanistan. Many lesser kings were envious and wary of his power, including Raja Jaichand of Kannauj. Jaichand's daughter, Samyukta, was a headstrong girl who was known for her bewitching beauty. She is said to have fallen in love with Prithviraj- like the two other princesses, Shashivrata and Padmavati, before her —as his reputation dazzled her.
She desired nobody but him. For his part, Prithviraj had heard of Samyukta's loveliness and fell in love with her as well. However, Jaichand and Prithviraj belonged to a rival Rajput clan. On finding out about the affair, Raja Jaichand was outraged that a romance had been budding behind his back.
Jaichand decided to insult Prithviraj and arranged a swayamvara for his daughter in CE. He invited royalty from far and wide to the ceremony, every eligible prince and king- except Prithviraj. He then commissioned a clay statue of Prithviraj, which served as a dvarpala or, a figurative "doorman" to Jaichand's court. Prithviraj Chauhan, on hearing about the impending swayamvaradevised a plan to elope with the bride to be. On the day of the ceremony, Samyukta walked through the court holding the ceremonial garland, ignoring the gazes of her ardent suitors.
She passed through the door and put the garland around the neck of Prithviraj's statue, declaring him her husband. Prithiviraj, who meanwhile was hiding behind the statue, caught Samyukta up in his arms, set her on his horse, and whisked her away to Delhi. Raja Jaichand was enraged. This led to a rift between Delhi and Kannaujwhich was later taken advantage of by Mohammad Ghori of Afghanistan. The historicity of Samyukta is a matter of debate. Prithviraj Raso is a historically unreliable text, having been embellished under the patronage of the Rajput rulers since the 16th century.
However, some scholars such as Dasharatha Sharma believe that the more reliable Prithviraja Vijayawhich was composed during the reign of Prithviraj Chauhan, also contains a reference to Samyukta. An unfinished theme in the 11th chapter of Prithviraja Vijaya refers to Prithviraj's love for an unnamed woman who lived on the banks of the Ganges river just like Samyukta.
This woman is mentioned as an incarnation of Tilottamaa legendary apsara celestial nymph. However, even if this woman is same as Samyukta, there is no concrete evidence to support the Prithviraj Raso narrative of Samyuka's abduction and marriage to Prithviraj Chauhan.
The life of Prithviraj Chauhan has also been the subject of a television show aired on Star Plusand a historical film titled Raani Samyuktha was made in with Padmini and M. Ramachandran in the lead roles.

About India. Transport in India. Cities Of India. He ruled the kingdom of Ajmer, the capital of Sapadalaksha which was traditional Chauhan territory till the latter half of the 12th century. Though traditionally the king of Ajmer, the medieval folk legends describe him as the king of Delhi and portray him as a representative of the pre-Islamic Indian power.
As the legends have it, the Agnivanshi Rajputs, the clan Prithvi Raj belonged to, derived its origin from a sacrificial fire-pit. When his father died in CE, he was only 11 years old, still a minor, he ascended to the throne with his mother ruling the kingdom as a reagent. According to the ancient scriptures, the Prithvi Raso in particular, he is said to have assumed the actual control of the administration in CE.
A king whose reign separated the two major epochs of Indian history, Prithviraj, in the pages of the Indian history, has been portrayed as a patriotic Hindu warrior who fought against Muslim enemies unifying all the Hindu Kings against the Muslim foe.
His army repulsed the attacks but suffered serious casualties in the process. They killed the Chandela royal gardener for objecting to their presence, which led to a skirmish between the two sides.
A harsh battle was fought with a valiant show of forces from either side and at the end of the battle, Prithvi Raj had another conquest to his name.
His other minor victories include the Conquest of Kakuda kingdom, the battle against the King of Dariyagarh and against king Raichand to name a few. But had only a single battle to be inscribed of Prithvi Raj in the pages of the history, it would be the battle against the ruler of the Muslim Ghurid dynasty, Muhammad of Ghor, the Battle of Tarrrain.
InMuhammad Ghori, leading an army ofmen, invaded India through the Khyber Pass and was successful in reaching Punjab. He led two regiments in an attack on the center, where Shihab ad-Din met Govinda Raja in personal combat. It was where the coins flipped and the course of history was changed, Prithvi Raj against the advice of his courtiers pardoned the aggressor respectfully released the vanquished Ghori.
When he reached Lahore, he sent his envoy to demand surrender but Prithvi Raj Chauhan refused to comply. Despite having no allies, mainly because of the rivalry between the Hindu Kings, Prithvi Raj assembled a very large army which is said to have consisted of elephants, horsemen, and considerable infantry.
Shahabuddin Ghori divided his troops into five parts and attacked in the early morning hours, sending waves of mounted archers. After a day of a heavy casualty of the Chauhan army, at dusk, Shahabuddin Ghori himself led a force of 12, heavily armored horsemen to the center of the Rajput line, the Rajput army broke ranks and fled, Prithvi Raj attempted to escape but was captured.
Prithvi Raj was taken to Ghaur and imprisoned there. Some accounts have it that Prithvi Raj was blinded by his eyes being burnt. Even there, in the eyes of the death, he did not accept the supremacy of Ghauri.I,here, post my s of salutes to the great king Great patriot Great warrior Good son Good brother Loyal lover And so on jai jai prithviraj chauhan I, being a follower of prithviraj chauhan and his thoughts, want to say to all readers here that prithviraj wasn't killed by mohummad ghauri.
Even ghauri was killed by Maharaj Prithviraj Chauhan.
If I say about his death as per chand bardai's prithviraj raso, after killing ghauri by shooting an arrow racing across throat, prithvi and chand stabbed each other because they didn't want to die by ghauri's courtiers. He was the only king who knows how to rule, how to fight, how to forgive his enemy. But the only mistake done by him was that he left gauri 17 times. A great solute to a great warrior.
Jai Jai Prithvi Raj Chauhan. I have a very deep respect for him.महाराणा प्रताप का इतिहास और कुछ रोचक तथ्य - Maharana Pratap History in Hindi
May God keep him happy always. I salute you Sir. I do respect Prithviraj Chauhan as an individual for his bravery and feild craft but as a ruler I find him to be foolish. Dont mind guys as I too am a staunch follower of Prithvi's ideologies. It was just because of his egoistic pleasures to be regarded as a brave and large hearted king that he left a crook like Ghouri and sacrificed entire Hindu Community to the hands of Mughalsfor next years.
I still say that he was a awesome warrior but a irresponsible ruler. Maharaj Prithvi raj Chauhan hamesa amar rahenge. I love and respect him a lot.

I have original Maharaj Prithviraj Raso by Chander Bardai genuine years old hand written and dated contact me www. Chaar Baans Chonsath gaaj Not he was, he is the greatest ruler ,who never back stabbed, and knew that he is a ruler not only by name,or by force but by his work and love towards his kingdom.
I think his drawback was that he did the same mistake as his father did,his father also left Bhimdev because of his principle,he too got a chance but did'nt kill ghauri caz of principles caz he worked more with heart rather then brain. Wish I would know some one as Prithviraj chauhan. Why is everyone so pleased with Prithvi Raj Chauhan.
When he could have killed Ghauri, he did not - out of some misplaced valor.
